Position Summary:

Assist students in lab, maintain and repair hand and power tools; maintain tool and equipment inventory and supply room for applied technology or academic program labs at CWI; procure, issue, and secure tools, supplies, and equipment; maintain computerized inventory systems; perform related work. Assist instructors with instruction as requested.


Essential Functions:

• Assist instructors with instruction in the lab
• Budget Maintenance
o Follows and maintains Automotive department budget
o Purchases all tools and products needed for the Automotive Program
o Handles all P-Card transactions for Automotive Program
o Reconciles all P-card and account transactions at the end of the month
o Follows Special course Fees closely and recommends changes as needed
o Prepares specifications and requisitions for purchase of equipment and supplies
o Purchases all Special Course Fee supplies
• Maintenance and Repair
o Troubleshoots, repairs, maintains, and upgrades power tools including air and electric
drills and grinders, lathes, mills, sharpeners, arc and oxy-acetylene welding
equipment, electronic testing equipment, hydraulic equipment, and pneumatic and
other power tools
o Interprets equipment service manuals
o Fabricates training aids
o Cleans, sharpens, and lubricates hand and power tools
o Researches new or replacement equipment for Autobody Program
o Identifies need and arranges for major equipment repairs
Schedules all equipment inspections as needed
• Lab equipment
o Issues tools, supplies, manuals and power equipment for use in CWI educational
o Prepares specifications and requisitions for purchase of equipment and supplies
o Understands operation procedures of all Autobody lab equipment
o Monitors expendable supply reorder levels
o Unlocks and prepares shop labs for class
o Secures tools, equipment and facility after classes
Cleans Lab and Lab equipment as needed
Works with Lab Manager, Department Chair and Instructors for lab needs

• Inventory
o Maintains computerized inventory system
o Prepares computerized inventory and work order reports
o Determines proper floor and shelf location for supplies(organization of the lab tool room and labs)
o Insures hazardous materials are stored and safely disposed
o Performs and reconciles physical inventory of supply warehouse
o Insures that Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) records are current for all products
o Verifies quantity and quality of orders and resolves discrepancies with vendors
o Tags supplies and stocks shelves
o Measures and mixes chemicals for redistribution and repackages supplies
Prepares disposal documents as needed for equipment disposal
Disposes of equipment according to CWI budget office requirements

• Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

• Knowledge and practical experience of Autobody shop competencies.
• Working knowledge of inventory methods, materials, and supplies procurement and
handling, storing, and shipping methods.
• Experience working with MSDS sheets and safety procedures for caustic, flammable, and
hazardous products
• Experience using equipment service manuals to troubleshoot and repair or upgrade power tools and equipment, preparing written material and completing forms, filing and retrieving data using a computerized records system.
• Current experience in Autobody Technology industry.
• Experience using computerized point of sale and inventory system preferred.
• Teaching experience in the trade preferred.
