Position Summary:

The Shop Assistant for the Autobody Program will assist students in the lab, maintain and repair hand and power tools; maintain tool and equipment inventory, and supply room for applied technology or academic program labs at College of Western Idaho (CWI). Procure, issue, and secure tools, supplies, and equipment; maintain computerized inventory systems; perform related work.

 

Essential Functions:

• Assist instructors with instruction in the lab
• Purchase all tools and products needed within the department budget

• Maintenance and Repair
o Troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and upgrade power tools
o Fabricate training aids
o Research new or replacement equipment

• Lab equipment
o Issue tools, supplies, manuals, and power equipment for use in CWI educational
programs
o Monitor expendable supply reorder levels
o Secure tools, equipment, and facility after classes. Clean lab and lab equipment
as needed

• Inventory
o Prepare and maintain computerized and physical inventory and prepare work order reports
o Ensure hazardous materials are stored and safely disposed
o Ensure that Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) records are current for all products
used
• Performs other duties as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications:

• Experience in Autobody Technology to include knowledge and practical
experience of an Autobody shop, 1-2 years experience preferred
• Working knowledge of inventory methods, materials, and supplies procurement and
handling, storing, and shipping methods
• Experience working with MSDS sheets and safety procedures for caustic, flammable, and
hazardous products
• Experience using equipment service manuals to troubleshoot and repair or upgrade
power tools and equipment
• Experience using computerized point of sale and inventory system preferred
