The Sr. Locksmith/Access System Technician is a journey-level skilled trades position responsible for the full range of skilled locksmith work including the installation, repair, and maintenance of manual and automated locking systems and security devices; low voltage computerized access control systems; ADA door operators, closers and hardware; to extend the operable service life of the equipment and to ensure safe and efficient operation of these systems.
• Installs, maintains, repairs, and adjusts all types of locks and their components for campus buildings, rooms, furniture, and vehicles• Maintains, repairs, and programs computerized access control systems• Upgrades, troubleshoot, and maintain security systems interfacing with access systems• Maintains and repairs ADA door operators, door closers, and control gates• Maintains detailed and accurate key system data using computerized record-keeping systems; updates data/records related to work performed; and prepares standard reports• Acts as an institutional expert for door hardware and access systems. Coordinates with and provides information to contractors performing work for CWI pertaining to the locksmith trade. Inspects completed work to ensure conformance with specifications, requirements and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations. • Performs general maintenance/repair of CWI facilities, equipment, and systems• Driving among CWI locations, parts and equipment suppliers and vendor locations• Perform other duties as assigned
• Three (3) years of experience as a journey-level locksmith completing installation, repair and maintenance of manual and automated locks and locking systems. Experience performing journey-level locksmith work in a college or university setting preferred• Experience working with Schlage Primus and Everest master key systems preferred• Experience working with Millennium computerized access control system software and components preferred• Thorough knowledge of applicable state codes pertaining to the locksmith trade including those related to fire egress, door hardware, and fastening devices • Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the locksmith trade, including complex access and control systems • Comprehensive knowledge of master key systems• Working knowledge of electrical locking and security systems and devices as well as applicable software systems• Ability to read, interpret and work from shop blueprints, plans, drawings and specifications• Ability to individually lift a minimum of 50 lbs. and with assistance, move and transport materials and equipment weighing in excess of 200 lbs.• Ability to work in confined attic and crawl spaces• Ability to climb and perform overhead work from ladders, personnel lifts, and elevated platforms• Ability to work outdoors in all seasons exposed to elements approx. 5% to 10% of the time• Available to respond to facility and system emergencies at all hours to take actions to ensure the facility is safe for occupancy and operation• High school diploma or GED • Must possess and maintain a valid Idaho driver’s license and clear driving record as defined by CWI policy
