Key Responsibilities:

Support Instructional Activities and Student Learning

  • Assist instructors with lab-based instruction and hands-on demonstrations.
  • Prepare shop labs for instruction and secure tools, equipment, and facilities after class.
  • Supervise and guide work-study students in tool issuance and storage.
  • Design and fabricate custom teaching aids, tooling, and shop equipment from sketches, drawings, or verbal requests.

Manage Program Budget and Procurement

  • Monitor and maintain the Welding department budget in alignment with program needs.
  • Purchase all tools, equipment, and supplies for the Welding Program, including those tied to Special Course Fees.
  • Handle all P-Card transactions and reconcile monthly expenditures and account transactions.
  • Prepare specifications and requisitions for the purchase of equipment and supplies.
  • Track and recommend changes to Special Course Fees as necessary.

Maintain, Repair, and Oversee Lab Equipment and Tools

  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain a wide range of tools and equipment, including drills, grinders, lathes, welding systems, and testing instruments.
  • Apply Total Preventative Maintenance (TPM) schedules and coordinate major repairs as needed.
  • Interpret equipment manuals and fabricate training aids as required.
  • Clean, sharpen, and lubricate tools; perform minor repairs on lockers and shop furniture.
  • Issue tools, manuals, and power equipment to students and staff as needed.

Oversee Inventory, Safety, and Supply Management

  • Maintain and update a computerized inventory system and generate reports as needed.
  • Monitor consumable supply levels and reorder as necessary.
  • Store supplies according to safety standards and dispose of hazardous materials appropriately.
  • Perform and reconcile physical inventories and ensure accurate labeling, tagging, and shelving of supplies.
  • Maintain current MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) records for all applicable materials.
  • Verify order quality and quantity, resolve discrepancies with vendors, and repackage supplies as needed.

What We're Looking For:

  • • Two years of experience in welding/fabrication industry including, knowledge and practical experience of welding and fabrication shop practices
    • Proven ability to design and fabricate tooling and teaching aids from drawings, sketches, or communicated needs
    • Working knowledge of inventory methods, materials, and supplies procurement and handling, storing, and shipping methods
    • Experience working with MSDS sheets and safety procedures for caustic, flammable, and hazardous products
    • Experience using equipment service manuals to troubleshoot and repair or upgrade power tools and equipment, preparing written material and completing forms, filing and retrieving data using a computerized records system
    • AWS welding certifications or the ability to achieve certification in SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, and GTAW processes is preferred
    • Teaching/training experience in the trade preferred

Additional Instructions for Applicants:

* This position will be Monday thru Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

**Most positions at CWI are in-person and based on campus. While some roles may allow up to two remote workdays per week, eligibility for remote work is determined on a case-by-case basis at the hiring manager's discretion. All candidates must reside within, or be willing to relocate to, a reasonable commuting distance from CWI. Employment visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
