Position Summary:
The Communication Program at College of Western Idaho is looking for adjunct faculty members to teach Introduction to Communication (COMM 101) courses in a face-to-face, hybrid, or online environment. Successful candidates are required to use the Blackboard learning platform for grading, posting office hours, making announcements, etc. The successful candidate may be asked to teach M-F during the day, evening, or Saturday at any of the College of Western Idaho’s campus locations. To reach a broad range of students, the College of Western Idaho encourages instructors to explore alternative teaching styles and methods.
Essential Functions:
• Teach contracted credit load of courses in accordance with the descriptions published in
the CWI catalog
• Utilize outcomes assessment measures
• Participates in instructional evaluation processes
• Meet all scheduled classes promptly with any deviations promptly and accurately
communicated through the appropriate channels
• Monitor and record student progress, maintain accurate records and adhere to the College
of Western Idaho’s deadlines for such procedures
• Demonstrate sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic,
cultural, ethnic, and disability backgrounds of community college students
• Read, understand, agree and adhere to the Social and Behavioral Sciences’ Letter of
Teaching Appointment
• Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in Communication
• Ability to enact a variety of teaching methodologies including lectures, group activities,
individual instruction, distance learning, and teaching with technology
• Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and development
• Proficiency in the use of internet, email, word processing, spreadsheet, presentation
software, and Blackboard applications
• Successful experience teaching at a community college or with adult learners preferred
• Experience using instructional technology preferred
Additional Instructions For Applicants:
Most positions at CWI are in-person and based on campus. While some roles may allow up to two remote workdays per week, eligibility for remote work is determined on a case-by-case basis at the hiring manager's discretion. All candidates must reside within, or be willing to relocate to, a reasonable commuting distance from CWI. Employment visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
