Position Summary:

Responsible for assisting English as a Second Language Students instructors and/or Adult Education instructors in either online or in-person class. Class days, times and meeting frequency vary according to specific assignment.

Essential Functions:

• Assists with instruction for students in a classroom setting in speaking, listening, reading and writing English as a Second Language
• Assists with instruction for students in a classroom setting in reading, writing, and math instruction for adult education and/or English as a Second Language
• Implements Life and Work Skills curriculum or other curriculum as assigned by lead instructor/
• Works with supervisor and lead instructor to meet educational outcomes, including instruction, assessment, and other metrics, as established by state and federal funding sources.
• Collaborates with lead instructors to deliver instruction that meets language acquisition needs of students in class.
• Assists with implementation of lesson plan created by lead instructor for each class.
• Assists lead instructor in retention efforts, following established guidelines for contacting students.
• Helps record student attendance and tracks student outcomes.
• Assists with orientation, intake, registration and testing, if requested.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as assigned.
• Conveys by words and actions the values expected by CWI.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Students majoring in linguistics, education, or social work strongly preferred.
• Basic computer skills required.
• Experience working with multilingual learners in a culturally diverse, trauma informed setting strongly preferred.
• Experience learning and using English as a second language strongly preferred.
• Fluency with the following languages strongly preferred: Ukrainian, Spanish, French, Kinyarwanda, Karen, Vietnamese, Arabic, or Dari.

Additional Instructions For Applicants: 

Most positions at CWI are in-person and based on campus. While some roles may allow up to two remote workdays per week, eligibility for remote work is determined on a case-by-case basis at the hiring manager's discretion. All candidates must reside within, or be willing to relocate to, a reasonable commuting distance from CWI. Employment visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
