Inspire Connection and Confidence as an Adjunct Communication Instructor at CWI!
Are you passionate about helping students become confident, effective communicators? The College of Western Idaho (CWI) is seeking an Adjunct Communication Instructor to teach Introduction to Communication (COMM 101) and create engaging learning experiences that help students strengthen communication skills they can use in school, work, and everyday life.
In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to teach in face-to-face, hybrid, or online environments while using innovative, student-centered teaching strategies to support CWI’s diverse community of learners.

Teaching & Instructional Excellence:
- Teach assigned COMM 101 courses in accordance with course descriptions and established curriculum
- Deliver engaging instruction using a variety of teaching methodologies, including lectures, group activities, individual instruction, technology-enhanced learning, and distance education
- Explore innovative and inclusive instructional approaches that engage students with different backgrounds, experiences, and learning needs
- Meet scheduled classes promptly and communicate schedule changes through appropriate college channels
- Maintain established office hours and provide students with appropriate instructional support
Student Learning & Assessment:
- Utilize established learning outcomes and assessment measures to evaluate student achievement
- Monitor and document student progress while maintaining accurate academic records
- Provide timely feedback that supports student learning and academic success
- Meet institutional deadlines related to grading, records, and other instructional responsibilities
- Participate in instructional evaluation processes and continuous improvement efforts
Student Engagement & Inclusive Learning:
- Create a welcoming and student-centered classroom environment
- Demonstrate understanding of and responsiveness to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and educational experiences of community college students
- Encourage student participation, collaboration, and meaningful discussion
- Support students in developing communication skills that contribute to their academic, professional, and personal success
Technology & Course Management:
- Utilize the college’s Learning Management System (LMS) to post course materials, announcements, office hours, grades, and other instructional information
- Incorporate instructional technology where appropriate to enhance student engagement and learning
- Maintain proficiency with email, internet, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, and other instructional technologies
Professional Engagement & Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional growth and development
- Follow departmental and college policies, procedures, and instructional expectations
- Read, understand, and adhere to the Social and Behavioral Sciences Letter of Teaching Appointment
- Collaborate professionally with faculty, staff, and department leadership
- Perform other duties as assigned
Work Environment & Schedule:
- Courses may be offered face-to-face, hybrid, or online
- Teaching assignments may be scheduled Monday through Friday during the day or evening, as well as Saturdays
- Instructors may be assigned courses at any CWI campus location
- Course assignments and schedules are based on departmental and enrollment needs
What We’re Looking For:
- Master’s degree in Communication
- Ability to utilize a variety of instructional methods, including lectures, collaborative activities, individual instruction, distance learning, and technology-enhanced teaching
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and development
- Proficiency with internet, email, word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and Learning Management System applications
- Ability to effectively support and engage a diverse community college student population
Additional Instructions For Applicants:
Most positions at CWI are in-person and based on campus. While some roles may allow up to two remote workdays per week, eligibility for remote work is determined on a case-by-case basis at the hiring manager's discretion. All candidates must reside within, or be willing to relocate to, a reasonable commuting distance from CWI. Employment visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
