Direct oversight and responsibility for the success of the Fire Service Technology Basic Technical Certificate (FST BTC) Program. Exercise primary responsibility for the FST BTC program using the IFSAC (International Fire Service Accreditation Congress) and NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) model, standards, and curriculum. The program collaborates to meet the needs of fire agencies in the service region and serve their employment needs. The coordinator will identify, supervise, and coordinate with the instructors to deliver IFSAC and NFPA certified instruction. The Coordinator will also coordinate activities associated with the recruitment and advising of students, as well as the continuous development, management, and improvement of the program. Maintain composure in a high-stress environment that includes training students in NFPA 1403 approved live fire training, high angle rope rescue, and other scenarios.
• Recruit and interview student candidates to determine qualifications are met to enter the program (e.g., background check and interview) and continue to advise students throughout the program.• Takes primary responsibility for retaining students, following established guidelines for contacting students. • Records student attendance and tracks student outcomes. • Manage student registration and testing. • Manage classroom coordination, field, and drill ground training to include securing training sites, providing equipment and training aides while maintaining a high level of student safety and security. • Recruit, develop, evaluate and schedule IFSAC and NFPA qualified instructors. Review instructor student evaluations and conduct performance evaluations and report results as needed.• Instruct students to IFSAC and NFPA standards as needed in a variety of topics including but not limited to Firefighter I, hazmat awareness and operations, extrication, assisting technical rescue teams, etc.• Develop program schedules, lesson plans, exams and other measurements needed to determine student level of performance and understanding.• Ensure safety of students during training on the drill ground and during NFPA standard 1403 live fire training.• Provide IFSAC and NFPA approved and aligned instruction to students in the program in area(s) of expertise.• Accompany program director in negotiating training agreements and meetings with executives of local fire service agencies. • Maintain IFSAC and NFPA certified instructor status and engage in professional development to ensure expertise in specialty and to teach additional subjects.• Maintain IFSAC and NFPA program certification including articulating with other agencies, high schools, and other post-secondary programs. • Attend and participate in all Social Science department meetings and required faculty/professional training.• Represent the fire service program at public events within the community with professionalism. • Effectively address student issues or complaints. • Cooperate professionally with all other departments, faculty, staff, and students of the College to provide an effective educational program.• Assume responsibility for the safety of all equipment assigned to students in the program.• Conveys by words and actions the values expected by CWI. • Performs other duties as assigned.
• Bachelor’s degree in fire service or related emergency services field preferred.• 5 years of experience in fire service or related emergency services field. • Established IFSAC and NFPA certified instructor or the ability to earn IFSAC and NFPA teaching certification required.• Proven ability to conduct fire service training and evidence of earned advanced IFSAC and NFPA certificates preferred (Intermediate, Advanced, Master, and/or Executive).• Experience in program coordination and teaching experience in a fire service approved program preferred.
