Position Summary:

The Program Director reports to the Department Chair and the Dean and is responsible for instructing and training students in the skills required for entry into the field of Surgical Technology. This faculty position works with other faculty and administrators in the strategic planning, implementation, and updating of the program and program materials. The Program Lead will obtain and maintain clinical affiliation Agreements, Declarations of Intent, Clinical Site Information Forms, logs and records, and other documentation pertaining to the Program's clinical education curriculum and activities.

 

Essential Functions:

· Teaching assigned courses and academic advising of students.
· Develop and teach productive and constructive work habits, study skills, and core skills as identified by the college; and recognize the communications, computation, and human relations skills required for employment.
· Acquire and maintain programmatic accreditation through ARC/STSA and CAAHEP.
· The Program Director will be responsible for all aspects of the program, including the organization, administration, continuous review, planning, development, and general effectiveness of the program.
· Identify individual learning needs of students and make appropriate adjustments.
· Develop classroom and laboratory procedures, including safety, in accordance with identified local, state, and federal policies and procedures.
· Maintain appropriate records that indicate student progress and meet college grading requirements.
· Follow disciplinary procedures, as prescribed in college and program policy, and deal consistently and fairly with all students.
· Design learning experiences for the unique characteristics of the individual student.
· Implement strategies to achieve goals consistent with the goals and policies of the College of Western Idaho
· Participate in professional development activities and staff development in the assigned instructional area and technical field.
· Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of the Surgical First assistant curriculum and relate specific applications to industry.
· Communicates expectations and establishes clear grading criteria through appropriate instructional means, to include but not limited to developing course syllabi, handouts, and materials supporting the instructional process; evaluates student progress and provides clear, timely feedback.
· Participates in district, division, department, or general faculty meetings; in-service training; curriculum development; academic consulting; workshops or seminars; service on district or college councils or committees, or other activities within the scope of the position.
· Complies with state and federal law applicable to professional duties and responsibilities; Follows established procedures in areas such as printing, turning in grades, bookstore orders, office support, student financial aid requirements, safety and health issues and related administrative processes.
· Complies with current Accreditation Review Council for Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting, (ARCSTSA)

Minimum Qualifications:

· Must hold a current CST certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting, (NBSTSA).
· Must have a minimum of five years of clinical experience as a CST or other, as outlined above.
· Must have a minimum of a minimum of a Bachelor's degree.
· Must have a minimum of two years teaching experience at the post-secondary level. Experience must include teaching, curriculum development, and administrative duties.
· Must posses or be able to obtain an Idaho State Professional-Technical teaching certificate. Teaching experience in a variety of settings including but not limited to institutions of higher education, clinical instruction of students in either surgical technology or surgical first assisting, staff in-services, presentations at local, regional, or national conferences preferred.
· Administrative and organization experience including program planning and implementation, personnel and budget management, program evaluation, and experience with professional accreditations.
· Significant experience in surgical facility professional network for student clinical experience.
· Active participation in state and national professional organizations.
· Must work well in a team environment under challenging circumstances.
· Willingness to collaborate with other institutions.
· Flexible attitude in preforming daily duties and responsibilities.
· Must hold a current driver’s license.
· Must hold a current BLS certification.
