Position Summary:

College of Western Idaho is currently seeking an instructor to teach Diesel Technology courses in the areas of Heavy Duty Diesel vehicles. The instructor is responsible for developing curriculum, instructing assigned courses consistent with syllabi, evaluating student learning, and fostering student success. The instructor must be willing to work extra hours to support program, college and community events.
Prior teaching experience and shop management are a plus, but we do offer ongoing in-house teacher training. Candidates should possess solid communication skills and the ability to provide instruction in heavy truck theory operation, troubleshooting and repair. Class A CDL, hydraulics, welding, forklift and industrial equipment experience are a plus.

Essential Functions:

An Instructor may perform any combination of the below listed responsibilities as determined by the Department Chair:
• Plans, organizes, and instructs courses as assigned by the Department Chair, utilizing effective and engaging instructional strategies, the learning management system (LMS), appropriate communication, classroom management, leadership skills, and instructional educational technology to promote student success.
• Uses instructional technology including multimedia to meet students’ learning needs and achieve the objectives of the program.
• Works as a team member with other faculty and staff to facilitate College and academic program operations and achieve goals and objectives.
• Assists in attaining and maintaining program ASE master accreditation.
• Completes the in-service faculty training during the one-year probationary period to ensure understanding of the College’s mission and preparation to instruct students with various learning styles and academic needs.
• Completes twelve credit Idaho state occupational specialist certification within first 3 years
• Continues professional development/growth and a commitment to continuous improvement as an instructor.
• Remains current within his/her academic field/discipline.
• Participates in advisory committee meetings and other college related activities.
• Assists in providing support for operations/events/processes to enhance recruitment, enrollment/registration, advisement, transfer, and graduate employment, as assigned.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma, Associates degree in Diesel Technology preferred.
• Five years of full-time recent work experience in a related field.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
• Ability to obtain an ASE Master Certification in Medium/Heavy Trucks within the first year of employment.
• ASE Master certification in Medium Heavy Duty Vehicles preferred
• Idaho Class A Commercial Driver’s License preferred.

The Instructor must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include adequate close vision and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
