Position Summary:

The Senior Accountant provides accounting support to the College of Western Idaho and the CWI Foundation. This position will ensure accurate reporting and appropriate internal control procedures according to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Financial Accounting Standard Board (FASB) Standards. The Senior Accountant will assist with post-award grant compliance with Uniform Guidance, act as the primary point of contact for general accounting inquiries, manage financial data, complete internal and external financial reports, reconcile bank and investment accounts, and perform other general accounting functions while working closely with other College staff and faculty as well as the CWI Foundation team.

Essential Functions:

Financial Reporting, Budgeting, and Internal Controls
• Prepare accurate monthly financial reports and analyze accounting and related system reports for accuracy and completeness.
• Assist with the preparation of the CWI Foundation budget to support financial planning and strategic decision-making.
• Develop, maintain, and enforce internal controls and financial procedures to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with regulations.


Accounting Operations and Grant Management
• Prepare journal entries and perform timely general ledger account reconciliations and analysis, including cash accounts, bonds, receivables, and fixed assets, for both the College and CWI Foundation.
• Manage grant accounting from award to closeout, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local standards.
• Monitor cash account balances, analyze investment activity, and prepare reports for management and the CWI Foundation Board of Directors.


Audit Preparation, Donation Management, and Compliance
• Ensure all donations, including restricted, endowed, in-kind, stock, deferred gifts, and annuities, are properly recorded and managed according to donor intentions.
• Prepare financial statements, footnotes, and work papers for the annual audit of the CWI Foundation and assist with the College audit process.
• Complete the annual 990 filing and perform other duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and support for the organization’s objectives.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in accounting, financial reporting, or a similar role.
• Experience with non-profit accounting, including grant management, investment accounting, and endowment fund administration, is highly preferred.
• Two years of FASB accounting experience
• Must be flexible and willing to adapt to a rapidly changing environment with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
• Must be detail-oriented with demonstrated analytical ability
• Proven ability to effectively convey complex data and insights to diverse stakeholders, ensuring clear understanding and informed decision-making.
