If you love bringing order to history, creating systems that last, and turning collections into accessible stories… you’ll love building a brand-new institutional archive at CWI.

This is a unique opportunity to help lay the foundation for an emerging archive at a dynamic and growing community college. Working closely with the Assistant Director of Library Services and the Collection Management Librarian, you’ll assess, organize, and describe materials that capture the story of CWI—while establishing scalable practices that will guide the archive into the future.

If you enjoy evaluating materials for historical value, developing workflows that make sense, and creating structure where none yet exists, this role offers meaningful, hands-on archival work with visible impact.

Why Join CWI?

At the College of Western Idaho (CWI), you will work in a dynamic, collaborative environment where problem-solving and innovation are valued, and your contributions directly enhance the efficiency of the institution.

Key Responsibilities:

Establish Foundational Archival Processing and Organization Practices

  • Conduct preliminary assessments of materials to determine archival value, scope, and research relevance.
  • Arrange, describe, and rehouse archival materials in accordance with professional standards, establishing consistent local practices.
  • Create initial inventories, accession records, and baseline finding aids for emerging collections.
  • Develop simple, scalable description templates to support the long-term growth of the archive.
  • Create consistent descriptive metadata for collections and materials.

Develop and Document Core Archival Policies and Workflows

  • Draft and document foundational archival workflows, policies, and procedures, including collection development criteria, accessioning, processing, and handling guidelines.
  • Contribute to the creation of sustainable, repeatable processes that support ongoing archival operations.

Contribute to Departmental Collaboration and Institutional Values

  • Participate in departmental meetings to provide feedback and recommendations related to archival policy and processes.
  • Convey, through words and actions, the values and service standards expected by CWI.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of library and archival initiatives.

 What We're Looking For:

• Master’s degree in library science or history, or related advanced degree.
• Archival experience

• Strong communication skills
• Experience with Preservica or similar platforms, preferred but not required

 Additional Instructions for Applicants:

  • Please include a cover letter.
  • This temporary, part-time position will play an integral role in developing a new institutional archive and establishing foundational archival practices at a dynamic community college library, working closely with the Assistant Director of Library Services and Collection Management Librarian.
  • This position will work 19.5 hours per week for a sixteen-week period between March 1 and June 30 based at the Nampa Campus.
  • All candidates must reside within, or be willing to relocate to, a reasonable commuting distance from CWI. Employment visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
