The College of Western Idaho (CWI) is seeking a Senior Instructional Designer to support workforce training, employer‑sponsored programs, and apprenticeship instruction through high‑quality course design, LMS optimization, and instructional technology leadership.

Industry‑Aligned Instructional Design & Collaboration:

  • Partner with Workforce Development and Employer Partnership leadership, instructors, SMEs, and employer partners to translate industry skill needs into effective learning experiences
  • Collaborate with instructors to design, develop, and continuously improve courses, including video‑based and interactive learning materials
  • Design modular, accelerated, and short‑term training programs tailored for adult learners and workforce needs

Learning Technology & LMS Leadership:

  • Design, test, recommend, and implement solutions to optimize Canvas and related learning technologies
  • Maintain LMS course shell blueprints and manage content migration based on course timelines
  • Provide LMS administration and technical support for Workforce Development and Employer Education teams

Instructor Training & Instructional Support:

  • Train instructors on Canvas, instructional software, video production, and job aid creation
  • Support instructors delivering instruction across in‑person, online, hybrid, remote, and employer‑site environments
  • Provide guidance on instructional best practices, presentation techniques, and adult learning strategies

Quality Improvement & Innovation:

  • Support continuous improvement through course reviews, learner feedback, and instructional quality indicators
  • Apply adult learning theory and instructional design best practices to enhance learner engagement and outcomes
  • Stay current on instructional technologies and workforce education trends

What We’re Looking For:

  • 4–5 years of instructional design experience
  • Experience with online learning as a student or instructor
  • Strong expertise in adult learning principles, instructional design, and online course development
  • Proficiency with learning management systems, particularly Canvas
  • Experience administering or supporting LMS platforms (course setup, enrollments, troubleshooting)
  • Experience developing instructional materials using video and e‑learning tools (e.g., SnagIt, Camtasia, Adobe Captivate)
  • Experience collaborating with instructors, SMEs, and industry professionals
  • Strong project management, organizational, and presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiarity with SCORM, HTML, Section 508 accessibility standards, and web‑based instructional technologies

Additional Instructions For Applicants: 

Most positions at CWI are in-person and based on campus. While some roles may allow up to two remote workdays per week, eligibility for remote work is determined on a case-by-case basis at the hiring manager's discretion. All candidates must reside within, or be willing to relocate to, a reasonable commuting distance from CWI. Employment visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
